The "Little Dubber" Kayak, a wooden-hull kayak

A few years ago, we became aware of these cute little boats, designed by Peter Hunt. We saw them a couple years running at the Wooden Boat Show.

Sharon was looking for a safe lightweight little boat for poking (or Dubbing) around our local waters, and so we bought the plans. In summer of 2003, one of our carpenters had the time to build one, and so we did.

Sharon liked this first boat (a “Little Dubber”) so much that we built the larger version of the boat (”Bigger Dubber”) for Doug so that he and Sharon could “Dub” around together.

The pictures are of the Little Dubber. The designer recommends persons less than 170 pounds for this boat. Price: $1,995

However, that picture of Doug proves that it will accommodate persons of at least 190 pounds. Price: $2,295

We have not created inventory for these boats, but we will build them to order.

To our knowledge, there is no commercial outfit anywhere offering these great little boats for sale – but we will build you one.

The boats are unique and “cool” for several reasons:

• They are unbelievably stable. It is really difficult to capsize one. This is a great feature for kids and inexperienced paddlers.
• They just look so cool. Wherever we go with them, everyone notices, comments, and admires.
• They are extremely light weight. The Little Dubber weighs in at just a little over 20 pounds. So they are easy for even persons of slight stature to handle.
