Boatbuilding

At least half of our efforts here are devoted to boatbuilding.

POWERBOATS

Since 1995 we have built the Elegant Down East Lobsterboat Cruiser, the Southport 30.  This traditional lobsterboat is custom built to an owners tastes. It is seaworthy, dry, smooth running, quiet, efficient, and beautiful.  It turns heads where ever it goes.

In 2005, we began production of a new powerboat, The Handy Billy 21.  We thought that introducing a sensible, efficient, smooth riding small center console at that time would be a wise move, and we think we were right.

Southport 22 and Southport 33
We have developed plans for these derivatives of out classic Southport 30.

Very often customers come to us with a vision for their perfect boat.  If their needs match up with our standard offerings (as above) that’s great.  But sometimes we end up finding other available hulls (as “kits”) or designing a boat for them.

SAILBOATS

In 2006, we began working with Outward Bound USA on a new expedition vessel to replace their fleet of aging Hurricane Island Pulling Boats.  This boat will soon be available to the general public through Southport Island Marine.
The 20 foot Celebrity Class Sloop
In 2008 we acquired the molds for this classic centerboard Daysailer which has been out of production since the late 1990’s.  The boat is fast, pretty and easy to tow and launch.  It is fun alone or with 6 people aboard and easy to handle.

The 21 foot Boothbay  Harbor One Design  Sailboat
This venerable racing class is still active here in the Boothbay region.  The molds for fiberglass boats were lost many years ago, and we have been talking with the BHOD Association as well as interested individuals about creating new molds and new fiberglass boats to invigorate the fleet.
